they are making house out of what?

In 2006 I observed houses on the building site near me being constructed out of an unusual material. After some investigation I discovered it was polystyrene.

There are two main techniques using polystyrene, (see ThermaWallPlus®)

In uses panels that are up to 4800mm tall, and 1200 wide, and available between 50mm and 100mm deep. The panels are secured to the timber frame with screws, covered with a fibreglass mesh and then rendered.

The second method uses hollow shells that are secured with steel and filled with concrete.

The benefits of polystyrene construction are that the product is a good insulator will never corrode, light weight and easy to cut, the construction is quick and cost effective.

There are how ever environmental considerations to take into account, because the proses that makes polystyrene results in a lot of bad waste, and the product it’s self is not often recycled and is virtually indestructible.
